A new controversial law in the making is causing huge uproar in Egypt. The Egyptian ‘farewell intercourse’ law allows for husband to have sex with dead wife during the first 6 hours after her death.According to MailOnline and many other sources, the new law is based on 2011 suggestions of ZamZami Abdul Bari who is a Moroccan cleric. Abdul Bari suggested that the marriage between a man and a woman is still valid even after their death. Abdul Bari also said that a woman can also have intercourse with his husband after he dies.
In addition to the new controversial ‘farewell intercourse’ law, the Islamic-dominated Egyptian parliament is trying to introduce another measure that would lower the legal marriage age for women to 14. The law makers are apparently trying to also pass other measures that would make very difficult for women to get education and employment.
The new legislation has made the Egypt’s National Council for Women very furious. According to MailOnline, the council is campaigning against by saying that ’marginalizing and undermining the status of women would negatively affect the country’s human development’.
MailOnline also reports that the TV anchor Jaber al-Qarmouty also slammed the drafted law and said that ‘This is unbelievable. It is a catastrophe to give the husband such a right! Has the Islamic trend reached that far? Is there really a draft law in this regard? Are there people thinking in this manner?’
